Flap gates are designed to automatically open to allow storm water to pass through but will close and keep flood water out. Automatic flap gates are available in either steel or cast iron. Steel flap gates are designed to be mounted on corrugated metal pipe and reinforced concrete pipe. Cast iron gates are designed for corrugated metal pipe (spigot back) or to concrete headwalls (flat back).
